This soup is quick to make, flavorful, and filling! Serve with warm corn bread or tortillas. This also freezes well. Garnish with chopped fresh avocado, Monterey Jack cheese, crushed tortilla chips, or green onion!

To start off... please keep in mind, I SUCK AT COOKING! Now that we have gotten that established, let me tell you this recipe turns out REALLY GOOD even when I make it! My boyfriend is allergic to chicken (weird I know) so I use beef or vegetable broth and the only thing that I add on to this is a little more chili powder and instead of plain crushed tomatoes I use fire-roasted canned tomatoes. It turns out wonderfully and since I make it for the 2 of us, we can eat it for at least 2-3 days. Leftovers are delicious for lunch. The other thing about this recipe is that soups are usually not so filling but THIS FILLS YOU UP! It is like an entire MEAL!!!:):) I am so happy with this recipe and cannot help but make it at least one time every week. Thanks for sharing!!

Definitely a good, hearty soup. i substituted the oregano for cumin as suggested and more chicken broth instead of water. I feel it could use more flavor still but i'm not sure what! Only topped it with cheese because that's all I had on hand. Still good. Would make again and try to make it a little more interesting!

I made this recipe as written. We have 6 children and while they're not at all picky eaters, it is difficult to find a recipe they all LOVE. This one was a hit! Will use it often on chilly autumn or cold snowy days. I've been looking for a good chicken tortilla soup for awhile. After trying several recipes we found one!! Thanks for the recipe.

So good! Easy to make even with the long list of ingredients. I made a huge pot and it disappeared fast. Make sure to put the shred cheese on top - it is a great touch! As good as it is the first day it is even better the next day - if you manage to have any left!

The flavor is excellent. However, I prefer less of a tomato base and more of a chicken stock base.

So yummy & filling! Perfect for a fall, Sunday football dinner. I added some salt and made fresh corn bread as a side. It was a super satisfying, savory meal.

This was very very good. I will definitely make this again. It was quick and easy to make, and very tasty. I made this for 40 people, and most everybody liked it. Some people thought it was too tomato-ey, so if you're not crazy about tomatoes, maybe this isn't the soup for you. (the base of the soup is mostly tomatoes) However, my husband doesn't like tomatoes at all, and really liked this soup. I made a few changes - cumin, instead of oregano (a must), and I ommited the black beans, as I do not like them. I bought some corn tortillas, and cut them into strips, sprayed them with cooking spray and baked them in the oven at 350 for about 10-12 minutes, and put them on top of the soup, along with sour cream and mexican cheese. Fantastic! I served this dish with mini cheese quesadillas, and mexican rice. Definitely a keeper!

We loved it! Would change a thing... just be sure to throw some tortilla chips on it with a scoop of sour cream on the top before serving. Yummy!

My friend and I got together for a playdate with our kids, we made this soup for lunch, It's delicioso and of course I will make it again. Just love it. we didn't have hominy so we double the corn. and as chili peppers we used red pepper.

this soup was what i was looking for! i did take some suggestions of others and made a few changes. i eliminated the oregano and added cumin. I also eliminated the hominy as i dont like it. i added two cans of regular chicken broth and one can of water. i also did two cans of chilies as we like things a little spicy. i let it simmer for an hour to let the flavors come together better. also instead of crushed chips, i cut corn tortillas into strips and broil them in the oven until they are golden brown and crunchy. The cilantro in this soup gives it so much flavor. i will definitely be making this soup again!

Wow, I love this recipe. I have made it so many times, and I'm finally reviewing. I like it exactly as is, but I LOVE to add other stuff. My favorite things to add: lime juice and/or vinegar, about 1/4 cup each, cumin and extra chili powder, pork instead of chicken if that's what I have leftover in the fridge, even potatoes and an extra can of beans if I'm going meatless. I like to keep adding seasonings since I generally simmer it for quite a while. Thank you for a terrific recipe!

Very good. Personally I would prefer it without the chicken. I added an extra can of beans instead of the hominy. Next time I will use medium chilies instead of mild for more of a punch.
