  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 teaspoons white sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, chilled and diced
  • 3/4 cup milk

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C).
  2. In a large bowl, sift together dry ingredients. Cut in butter until mixture resembles coarse oatmeal. Make a well in the center of the dry mixture and pour in the milk. Stir until dough begins to pull together then turn out onto a lightly floured surface.
  3. Press dough together and then roll out until 3/4 inch thick. Cut into 2 inch round biscuits and place on an ungreased baking sheet.
  4. Bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes, or until golden.

These taste excellent, but they didn't rise very much. I am probably doing something wrong though. Definitely an easy recipe, I will be making these again!

These were actually the best biscuits i've made. I only gave them a 4 instead of a 5 cause it seemed to be lacking something, not sure what, but being that i topped them with gravy for breakfast they were awesome. It made 9 biscuits for me that i cut out with a drinking glass. I baked them for 3 minutes longer than the recipe said just for extra browness to suit my liking. Overall, this gets put in my binder and the old recipe gets tossed out. TY!
