My finicky sweetie just loved this. Never missed the meat. Hearty and delicious. I added extra sweet potatoes. I used a whole can of chickpeas, drained and rinsed. Two cans would work also. This will be regular winter fare.

This is a different, colorful and tasty soup. I did think the simmer time was a bit excessive and my potatoes were a little mushy. Next time I would cut back the initial simmer time to 10 min. and I would also add the green pepper with the onion and celery. I did learn a lesson while making this recipe. I used a white plastic ladle and the turmeric stained it badly. Now I have a ladle that is white on the handle and bright yellow on the bowl! LOL!

Some reviewers have said that the sweet potato makes this, however, I found that this recipe could do without, as I found the sweetness almost at odds with the wonderful spiciness of the broth. I used kumara, so possibly a different type of sweet potato would be better. I doubled the chicken stock, and added a teaspoon of curry powder and 2 small chillies on top of the spices listed. I also doubled the tomatoes, and added some carrots I had on hand, which blended nicely. Next time, I will add cabbage, as some reviewers have suggested. I might also try substituting regular potatoes. This soup definitely has a goulash type quality to it, and has a wonderful rich flavour. A great way to get a healthy dose of veggies!

I used approx 4 cups chicken broth (or at least 2 32 oz packages), cut oil and salt in half, and omitted the tamari. My husband and I both thoroughly enjoyed this soup and will happily make again.

It was ok. I had to add a lot of seasoning to help it. I liked the different use of sweet potatoes. Probably won't make it again.

Delicious and healthy.. I love sweet potato and i love the idea of using it in a soup. I used about 3 cups of sweet potatoes instead of 2. This recipe has a nice contrast in sweet and spicy (mild and different kind of spicy). 5 Stars Great recipe, I will definitely try this again and add a little bit more cayenne pepper.

Good filling soup. Not a WOW factor soup but a good sturdy soup. Thanks, I will make again!

I loved this! Only adjustments I would make would be to add an extra sweet potato and maybe use half as much salt, as it didn't seem to need it much. Delicious!

What a great recipe! I also used soy sauce instead of Tamari. I also added some precooked diced chicken! YUM went from soup to STEW! Served with fresh baked bread!

This soup has a wonderful warm homey-ness to it. Perfect with homemade bread on a cold day. As other reviewers state, definitely at least double the liquid. I decided to make bread after this was started, which left it simmering for about 2 extra hours. Big mistake there. It still tasted good but the sweet potatoes (the best part) had lost all flavor, and the soup lacked texture. Husband still loved it though. I felt it needed something, maybe next time will try more veggies- spinach, carrots, zucchini. Maybe something sweet too, like apples or raisins.

Soup is good, but wish it had a more ethnic flair, it's a bit like "dump in everything." Tasted most like an African stew.

LOVED this soup! My only changes were to sub soy for the tamari and use a can of diced tomatoes instead of fresh. SO good!

This soup was awesome. It had such a delicious, savory flavor. I was skeptical due to the cinnamon... but it was GREAT. My husband LOVED it and he kept going back for more. I did substitute soy sauce for the tamari and did not use tumeric at all. Love it. Thanks for a keeper! :)

We liked this quite a lot, as did the family I made it for. I still give it 5 stars as is, but might try substituting black beans for the chick peas next time, just for personal taste.
