Ranchers Beans Recipe - Bush’s Best

Ranchers Beans

Recipe By: Tanya Belt
This is a down-home country, stick-to-your-ribs kind of meal, passed down from an old man my dad once knew. He used a lot more onions that what I use, but that's a personal preference. I have also made it with onion powder or dried minced onion, and it's always good. It's great on a blustery fall or winter day with corn-bread.

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1/2 pound spicy pork sausage
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 tablespoon minced garlic
  • 2 (15 ounce) cans baked beans
  • 1 (15 ounce) can butter beans
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup barbeque sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • ground cayenne pepper to taste

  1. Place the beef and sausage in a skillet over medium heat, and cook until evenly brown; drain grease. Mix in onion and garlic, and cook until tender. Stir in baked beans, butter beans, ketchup, barbeque sauce, Worcestershire sauce, and cayenne pepper. Cover, reduce heat to low, and continue cooking 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.

My mother called this recipe "Hobo Casserole" she only used baked beans, ground beef, wor, ketchup, onions, and handful of minute rice. We always knew it was close to payday when we had this, because money was tight!

Really good recipe! When I make this again, I'll saute the onion and garlic in with the beef and sausage, then drain off the grease. It wasn't easy to cook the onion in a dry pan without grease.

Mmmmm. This will warm you up on a chilly day. Great flavor. Used a spicy BBQ sauce for more heat, though it mellowed after sitting a day or so.
